Notice of policy change for Library Print Card holders

The volume of printing from Library computers has decreased significantly over the last several years, which means it is no longer cost effective to maintain all aspects of the Library’s current print management system. Therefore, effective Tuesday, February 1, 2012, the Library will discontinue all credit accounts for printing in the Library, which will affect all Print Card numbers beginning with “1”, “2”, or “3”.

Cash/debit Print Cards will continue to be used for printing from Library computers, and all users will be required to purchase a card in one of three ways:

  • Use a $1 bill at the Card Dispenser on the Main Floor of the South Campus (main) Library.  Additional value can also be added (with a $1, $5, $10, or $20 bill or coins).
  • Bring a paper IDR to Library Administration (Room E3.314) Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Bring a personal credit card, check, or cash to Library Administration (Room E3.314) Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Please feel free to contact us at 214-648-2626 with any further questions.

Special Labor Day holiday schedule

The South Campus (main) Library’s Main Floor 24/7 Access and the North Campus Branch Library will be available to UT Southwestern ID badge holders on Monday, September 5. However, all Library Services – including the Reserve Room as well as access to the South Campus Library’s Middle and Top floors – will be closed in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Any Reserve Room items needed on Monday must be checked out before the regular closing time (i.e., 5 p.m.) on Sunday, September 4,  and checked in Tuesday morning, September 6.

South Campus Library offers new 24/7 hours

As of August 25, 2011, the South Campus (main) Library’s Main Floor is now open to UT Southwestern ID badge holders 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Library staff will be available for assistance at the Information Desk from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

At all other times, the Library’s front doors will be locked, and a UT Southwestern ID badge must be used at a new badge reader that has been installed at the entrance.  UT Southwestern employees or students who do not have their university-issued ID badge must contact Campus Police at 214-648-8311.

Please note that employees of Parkland Health & Hospital System and Children’s Medical Center are always welcome to use the Library during normal business hours; however, as a safety precaution, this particular after-hours benefit is available only to UT Southwestern employees and students.

The Library’s Main Floor houses the computer commons, which includes student computers; individual and group study rooms; open study space; and a comfortable Wi-Fi Lounge.  During unstaffed hours, the upper two floors of the Library will be closed.  New security measures have been implemented: several cameras are now located throughout the Main Floor, and campus police will regularly patrol the Library.

Library announces summer hours, prepares for 24/7 access in Fall 2011

Effective July 5, 2011, the South Campus (main) Library will be open during the following hours for the summer:

  • Monday through Friday: 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Saturday & Sunday: 1 – 5 p.m.

These hours will be in place until mid-August while the Library prepares for 24/7 access for students and other UT Southwestern affiliates (i.e., anyone with UTSW badges) in Fall 2011. The 24-hour access upgrade will allow:

  • Access to private individual and group study areas
  • Access to Library computers

The Library is in the process of making appropriate changes to the locations of materials (e.g., reference, academic reserves, core textbooks) and the facility itself in order to address security concerns before the 24/7 implementation. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

The North Campus Branch Library, located in ND2.300, is always available 24/7 with ID badge access for quiet study or computer access needs.

Library's public photocopier accepts coins and bills only

The Library’s public photocopier now accepts only coins and bills. While photocopy print cards will no longer work on the copier, they will continue to work when printing from the Library’s public computers at both the South Campus (main) and North Campus Branch libraries.
UT Southwestern faculty, staff, fellows, and residents may also use the Library’s Intra-Campus Delivery Service(LIDS) to request and deliver copies of articles that we own; however, please note that regular Document Delivery services rates will apply.
