MD Consult brings convenient, free on-line training in November

MD Consult is offering free, on-line afternoon sessions throughout the month of November. These brief (under 30 minutes) sessions are perfect for new users and as “refresher courses” for others. Registration at the MD Consult Web site is required.
MD Consult is a clinical reference tool containing a comprehensive collection of information resources:

  • Full-text of 50 leading medical textbooks
  • Full-text articles from 80 premier health and life science journals and Clinics of North America
  • Extensive drug information provided by Gold Standard

MD Consult has the advantage of being accessible directly from off-campus, as well as on-campus, once the user has established a user name and password. (This feature is available only to UT Southwestern affiliates.) Most other Library electronic resources can be accessed off campus only via Virtual Private Network (VPN).
Find MD Consult on the Library’s Home Page by using the “Quick Links” drop-down menu (on the side bar). If you have questions about MD Consult, contact Emily Patridge by email or by phone at 214-648-9011.

Library launches Mobile Web site

The UT Southwestern Library is happy to announce the launch of its mobile Web site. It is the first step in making Library services and resources available over the Internet to mobile devices such as iPhones, Blackberries, and Web-enabled hand-held devices. The initial version will include links to hours, directions, research support and other information about Library resources.
The mobile device website can be accessed at http://www4.utsouthwestern.edu/library/mobile/ or on most mobile phones you will be redirected to it from the Library’s Web site.
After looking at the site, please fill out our feedback survey so we can find out what you would like to see next on the UT Southwestern Library mobile site.

PubMed receives a new look

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) has launched a redesign of PubMed. PubMed is NLM’s database of articles in the medical and life sciences, with links to full text when accessed via the Library Web site. The new streamlined interface is designed for ease of use. A number of changes will be made to Advanced Search, My NCBI, and format display options, but search processing -the way PubMed processes a search – will not change. All functionality will remain.
Saved searches and links that were created in the current interface will be preserved in the new design. No changes will be necessary to URLs that you have saved (PubMed brochures, etc.).
