MD Consult: Evidence-based answers for point-of-care decisions

Need information to make a treatment decision? MD Consult can get you answers fast! MD Consult offers various routes to the desired information:
First Consult—a subset of MD Consult—lets you search an alphabetical list of disorders. For each disorder, you can click on a tab to select:

  • Medical Topics (a succinct overview of the disorder)
  • Differential Diagnosis
  • Procedures

In addition to FirstConsult, another time-saving MD Consult feature is pre-researched “recommended results” on 200 common medical topics. These results link to textbook discussions on essential aspects of the topic.
MD Consult also offers a search box for keyword searching.
MD Consult’s comprehensive collection of information resources includes access to:

  • Full text of more than 50 leading medical textbooks
  • Over 50,000 high-quality images
  • Extensive drug information provided by Gold Standard
  • Full-text articles from 35 “Clinics” journals and over 50 other journals
  • Patient education handouts in English and Spanish
  • And more…see the MD Consult welcome page for details

MD Consult offers the advantage of being accessible directly from off-campus, as well as on-campus, once the user has established a user name and password. (This feature is only available to UT Southwestern affiliates.) Most other Library electronic resources can be accessed from off-campus only via Virtual Private Network (VPN).
Find MD Consult on the Library Web site by using the “Quick Links” drop down menu (on the left side bar). If you have questions about MD Consult, contact Emily Patridge by email or by phone at 214-645-6065.
