A new OvidSP interface arrived on August 2, 2010, bringing enhancements and a new look. The basics of searching have not changed, but the interface has been redesigned for easier navigation.
To prepare yourself for a new searching experience, take a look at these tutorials:
- Ovid’s tutorial highlights with new features
- A tutorial from Yale looks at the various changes, improvements, and new features of the OvidSP interface as compared with the old OvidSP search interface
What are these new features and enhancements? The following is a list of some of the major changes:
- My Workspace is the best of the new features. It contains My Projects, My Searches & Alerts, My eTOCS, and Install Toolbar. My Workspace allows users to create projects and organize research material, either retrieved through OvidSP or uploaded from another system, into a dedicated work area.
- My Projects is OvidSP’s resource management and organization tool. Here users can save search results, full text journal articles, images from Journals@Ovid, and book chapters from Books@Ovid. 50 MB of storage is available for storing items external to OvidSP, such as user-uploaded files and user-created citations.
- Ovid Toolbar is a downloadable browser toolbar that allows users to quickly and easily add resources from other sites outside OvidSP to My Projects folders. These resources include URLs of Internet search results and documents.
- New Citation Style and Export Options offer more flexibility. Users can now conveniently select their preferred citation export and print format—from MS Word, PDF, and RIS to EndNote and Reference Manager—as well as style, including Ovid, Chicago, AMA, and APA.
