Library upgrades to CINAHL Ultimate

The Library has upgraded its CINAHL subscription to CINAHL Ultimate, which provides full text for more of the most used journals in the CINAHL index than any other database. It covers more than 50 nursing specialties and includes quick lessons, evidence-based care sheets, CEU modules and research instruments. Additionally, it includes rigorous curation and indexing of open access (OA) journals, which has resulted in a growing collection of 1,253 active global OA journals.

UpToDate Registration/Verification Link for Wi-Fi access

The Library has added a new UpToDate registration/re-verification link on the Library’s home page to use with registration and 90-day re-verification assistance from a Wi-Fi network.
If you plan to access UpToDate from a device using campus Wi-Fi, you will need to register for a free UpToDate account using one of the following methods required for initial registration and 90 day campus re-verification:

  • UpToDate through EPIC
  • UpToDate through EZProxy (i.e. any non-UTSW Wi-Fi connection)
  • UpToDate through VPN or Citrix
  • On-Campus wired workstation

AccessAPN Arrives

The Library is excited to announce that UT Southwestern now officially subscribes to AccessAPN, offered by McGraw Hill Medical in partnership with Sigma Theta Tau.
If you are enrolled in an APN program, then the content in AccessAPN aligns with the curricula of Advanced Practice Nursing programs, including those for Nursing Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Certified Nurse Midwives, and Doctors of Nursing Practice. Of course, these resources are available for all UT Southwestern nursing staff – in acute care to ambulatory care and include the following:

  • Books – more than 40 eBooks on a variety of topics, including clinical information, EBP, informatics, leadership, professional development, and self-care/personal development
  • Cases – materials for short, targeted case-based learning
  • Review Questions – thousands of Q&A for board exam preparation

More information about AccessAPN is available from McGraw Hill, including a Brief Overview of AccessAPN – YouTube, as well as how to set up a MyAccess Profile account to access content remotely and unlock personal account features (e.g., review questions, cases).

NEJM Evidence add to EMB offerings

UT Southwestern Library is pleased to announce the addition of The New England Journal of Medicine Group’s new journal, NEJM Evidence, to its collection.
This monthly, peer-reviewed, online-only journal expands the body of published research with a focus on providing more context and critical evaluation of the trial design, research methods, statistical analyses and results to support clinical decision-making. The process of generating evidence is a key area of focus for NEJM Evidence.

Don’t Forget to Reauthenticate Your MyAccess Profiles Every 90 Days

The MyAccess profile is free to create and available on all of McGraw Hill’s medical Access platforms. This profile creates a personalized experience by unlocking the ability to bookmark content, interact with review Q&A and cases, and receive alerts about new content additions.
Another benefit of a MyAccess profile is the ability to go directly to the site (e.g., www.AccessMedicine.com) to access it remotely.
If you see a message that your remote access has expired, connect to the UTSW subscription either from on campus or while using VPN or EZproxy and then log into your MyAccess profile.

New: COVID-19 Resources Library Guide

In the past few months, there has been a vast amount of biomedical information produced about COVID-19. The Health Sciences Digital Library and Learning Center has created a new COVID-19 Resources Library Guide to quickly refer the UT Southwestern community to high-quality – i.e., primarily clinical and research – information about COVID-19. The guide includes:

  • Recommendations for searching PubMed
  • Expanded resources from existing subscriptions
  • COVID-19 tracking dashboards
  • Related open access resources

The COVID-19 Resources Library Guide supplements but does not supersede the COVID-19 information provided by the UT Southwestern Emergency Operations Center. The Guide will be updated as the COVID-19 information landscape evolves. Please email the Library if you have identified other key resources that we should consider for inclusion.

Library welcomes feedback on e-Anatomy trial

NOTE: TRIAL HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO MAY 3, 2020

The Library is offering temporary trial access to e-Anatomy through March 31, 2019.  e-Anatomy is a comprehensive, interactive atlas of human anatomy that combines medical imaging — including magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography scans — and 5,400 anatomic structures. In addition to helping students learn anatomic structures, this application provides added value for those interpreting radiological scans in clinical settings. The resource is rated highly as a trusted source by radiologists, medical imaging professionals, and students.

We invite UT Southwestern’s faculty, residents, students, and staff to explore this product during the trial period and supply feedback about the product’s value to support UTSW clinical, educational, and research needs.

The trial is not a guarantee of purchase. A purchasing decision is dependent on a variety of factors, including cost, campus needs, resource quality, feedback, collection priorities, uniqueness, and budget.

To supply feedback, please take our brief e-Anatomy Feedback Survey.  If you have questions or would like to offer other feedback, please contact mori.lou.higa@utsouthwestern.edu.
