Important reminder for UT Southwestern Residents: Change UTSW password or perish

Security-webUT Southwestern passwords automatically expire once a year (usually around your start date anniversary), and reminders about the password expiration are sent to your UT Southwestern email address to prompt you to change it. However, some UT Southwestern affiliates (e.g., residents/clinical trainees who are located at Children’s Health or Parkland Health and Hospital System) do not actively use their UT Southwestern-issued email account and might not receive these notifications.

If a UT Southwestern email password is not changed annually, the account will automatically be flagged as “inactive”, and UT Southwestern Information Resources (IR) will cancel the account for security reasons, which also means access to your Library’s resources will be suspended. The process of restoring access to a cancelled account is lengthy and requires the intervention of your department staff. Access to Library resources will be available only after the request to reactivate the account has been made by your department and processed by Information Resources.

But, if you reset your password now, this hassle can be avoided! Detailed steps are provided below.

HOW TO RESET YOUR PASSWORD NOW

  • Using a UTSW workstation or VPN (i.e., Junos Pulse), go to the UTSW Self-Service Password Registration page.
  • Type in your UT Southwestern Username and password. Then, input and confirm your new password.
  • If you have forgotten your password, leave it blank.
    • If you had previously set up recovery questions, you will be asked those questions in order to reset your password.
    • If you had never set up recovery questions, you will need to call the IR Help Desk at 214-648-7600 to reset your password.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU STILL CAN’T LOGIN TO EZPROXY NOW

To get started, please read the following statements:

  • I never use my UTSW email address account.
  • I haven’t changed my UTSW password since it was issued to me at orientation.

If either or both statements are “TRUE”, then you account has most likely been deactivated. Contact your UT Southwestern departmental administrator and ask them to initiate a new IAR form for your cancelled account. You will need to wait for IR approval before your account will be reactivated.

If either or both statements are “FALSE” and you have recently reset your password, or you continue to have problems, please email LibWebmaster@utsouthwestern.edu.

New Study Break exhibit highlights talented student photographers

LNbanner

Study Break, the inaugural summer exhibit that highlights the work of talented UT Southwestern students, is now available for viewing on the South Campus (Main) Library’s Main Floor. The exhibit features two third-year medical students, Christopher Dyke and Tyler Ellis Smith.

STUDENTSChristopher Dyke became interested in photography while serving with the Army Ground Forces band in 2009. He is primarily interested in travel and event photography. His colorful depictions of the diverse student life as an event photographer have succeeded in chronicling vibrant, lasting memories for his fellow students.

Tyler Ellis Smith’s photographic interests primarily include landscapes and wildlife, with an emphasis on birds. The dramatic and precise focus achieved in his nature and wildlife images provide wonderful temporary retreats from academics. His photos were taken throughout Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.

The exhibit will be on display from now until July 3, 2015.

NLM Poster Exhibit explores the culture and politics of AIDS awareness over the last 30 years

The South Campus Library is currently hosting a six-panel traveling exhibition – Surviving and Thriving: AIDS, Politics, and Culture – from May 11, 2015, through June 20, 2015. This banner exhibit explores the rise of AIDS in the early 1980s and the evolving response to the epidemic over the last 30 years.

The title “Surviving and Thriving” comes from a book written in 1987 by and for people with AIDS that insisted people could live with AIDS, not just die from it. Jennifer Brier, the exhibition curator, explains that “centering the experience of people with AIDS in the exhibition allows us to see how critical they were, and continue to be, in the political and medical fight against HIV/AIDS.”

The banners present their stories alongside those of others involved in the national AIDS crisis, and they utilize a variety of historic photographs as well as images of pamphlets and publications to illustrate how a group of people responded to, or failed to respond, to HIV/AIDS.

The exhibit was produced by the National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health.

Experiencing “Infinite Proxy Loop” errors? Find out how to fix it!

Sick of getting the “Infinite Proxy Loop” error when searching Ejournals A-Z ?

Most users experience this problem when they are either logging into the MyUTSW site from an off-campus location or trying to reach the Ejournals A-Z site through MyUTSW web pages or using the same browser as MyUTSW. The error occurs because there is a conflict between the MyUTSW and EZproxy authentication processes.

To solve this issue, you have two options:

  1. Open another browser to go to the Ejournals A-Z page. You’ll be asked to authenticate in the new browser using EZproxy, and your MyUTSW session remains open in the other browser.
  2. Log out of MyUTSW first, then go to the Ejournals A-Z page and authenticate using EZproxy. This option is necessary if you only have one browser on your computer.

If you tried both of these options and neither worked, there might be another problem. Contact Heather Perkins by email or 214-648-2006 for further assistance.

Subscribing to our journal success: top journal list mirrors Library subscriptions

scivalatozThe SciVal Experts system maintains a list of the top 100 journals that contain publications produced by UT Southwestern authors. The list is compiled using data from the Scopus database, and a link to it has been added to the Health Sciences Digital Library and Learning Center’s Top Ejournals page, which includes the 25 most-used electronic journals at UT Southwestern.

After carefully reviewing both lists of top ejournals, Library staff have determined that the 17 of our most-used titles appear on SciVal’s list. These titles are:

  • Blood
  • Cell
  • Journal of Biological Chemistry
  • Journal of Cell Biology
  • Journal of Clinical Investigation
  • Journal of Clinical Oncology
  • Journal of Immunology
  • Journal of Neuroscience
  • Journal of the American Chemical Society
  • Journal of the American Medical Association
  • Molecular Cell
  • Nature
  • Neuron
  • New England Journal of Medicine
  • Oncogene
  • Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences
  • Science

The Library is proud that our collection supports the mission of our campus through providing high impact journals in which our faculty actively publish.
